Hey everyone, January's update is a bit late as I was on a little trip at the end of the month. It took a bit of time off, but I'm back and excited to be working again.
This is the first of a new series that will be posted monthly that goes over the work I and my various companies have completed. I wanted to do this to document my work, as well as provide a public place for updates to keep me motivated. If I know that I'll be posting updates here each month then I know I'll have to accomplish something to post about.
With that out of the way, let's jump into the update.
Writing App Feature Complete
First up, we have the big milestone that the writing app I've been working on has reached feature complete stage. We have a working version that is completed with all the core features done and tested.
While I was finishing up development, I had my designer take a look over the screens and add some polish. Not only did he come up with a killer design, but he also found lots of usability wins that will ultimately make the app better.
The remaining work is implementing the designs and making the necessary changes. This should be fairly quick as a lot of the heavy dev work won't change.
I'm anticipating to have the app officially live by the end of the month. I will hopefully have a live link in next month's update.
Launched NPC Generator
Over at Mellow Golem, we launched our next app in the series of random generators. This time, for NPCs and characters.
This was a fun one to work on, and I still think there are a lot of tweaks to make. I have a lot of ideas to expand upon our initial version which will make it that much better.
This is also an important piece as the logic here will be used to build future generators. For example, a town generator will tap into this to help it fill out the inhabitants and people that live there. That's very exciting, and gives us lots of possibilities to work on next.
The app is currently available for IOS, with a planned Android release later this year.
You can check it out here.
Launched My Custom Planner
Our first physical product, I've released a custom planner. I could never find the right planner for how I do my work, so I decided to just make one.
I threw this together over the course of a couple weeks, and just got my proof copy in the mail a few days ago. So far I'm loving it! It's the perfect fit for my workstyle (as it should be considering I made it...).
I don't know if it's a good fit for everyone, but I figured "What the heck" and published it for sale on KDP. It's my specific taste, so if it's not yours that's perfectly okay. But, hopefully, there are some people out there who can benefit from it.
It's currently available in a hard copy, with a potential softback later. If you're interested, you can check it out here.
Niche Sites
The niche sites continue to grow at a decent clip, and I'm overall happy with the progress. In particular, our newest site is starting to see some initial organic growth. I'm excited to see how it goes over the course of the year.
This particular site is a largely hands-off experiment where I'm slowly drip-feeding articles. It's a much more low-budget and low-maintenance site, so it will be interesting to see how it performs.
Outside of that site, the few other niche sites are moving along and making progress.
Next Month
The next month is going to be a very exciting one. As noted above, the writing app is about ready to launch and should be out later. In addition to that, we're also cooking up a new random generator that I'm anticipating will be out either this month or very early in March.
We're also planning on starting a brand new music learning app that I'm super excited about. It's in the early planning stages, but my designer is starting to put together some preliminary screens. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months. Our anticipated release date for our MVP is late Q1.
That's all for now, until next time!
